Usually you stumble upon an "About Me" page and you rarely see the text written in a way that it feels like the artist is telling you about themselves. It almost feels like another person is telling you about the artist and the artist is just standing off to the corner nodding his/her head in approval. Pull a chair and allow me to tell you about myself.

I (Justin Reid) was born in the great city/borough of Brooklyn during the 80s. The interest in the artform of photography began in my younger years but it was always for the intention of capturing and preserving the memories of my youth. Armed with my knowledge of computers and basic coding I went to the City College of New York to go for a degree in Computer Engineering... And then a lovely combination of Chemistry, Physics and Academic Probation derailed that dream. It was not until this happened, and looking for a way to stay in college, that I turned to that my interest back to photography and then it became a passion and that I wanted to do something more with the medium.

I received my BA in Studio Arts from the City College of New York where I concentrated in the area of Photography in 2010. In the spring of 2010, I had the opportunity and privilege to intern at the Richard Avedon Foundation, one of the world’s most renowned fashion photographers of the mid and late 20th century.

Since graduating my work has been exhibited locally in group shows. Twice at the City College of New York (Annual Photography Show, 2009 & 2010), once at the Clemente Soto Velez Cultural & Educational Center (Heterotopia Group Show, 2010) and most recently at a RAW Artists event at The Wick in Brooklyn (May 2015). Yeah...I know. A huge gap between shows.

This is part in which I shall get up from my chair and invite you to check out my blog on the website if you want to get to know more about me. Definitely check out the virtual galleries that are my portraits, Dance Study series and DANCE to be FREE series while you are browsing. You shan't be disappointed.
