The cool thing about being an artist & a photographer is that you are constantly learning new things daily (or at least very very often). Yesterday during my session with University of North Carolina School of the Arts alumni Krystal Mackie, I learned (ok, relearned...) the importance of having a team, a squad, a grouping of creatives present during a session. Present not because they are physically there and you can look at them, but present because they are actively helping both dancer and myself with obtaining the best shot possible.
Having both Kevin Tate and Lloyd Boyd present was a Godsend. It allowed me through them to see proper technique, what things to look out for (both positive and negative) and allowed me to focus on things such as composition & settings...you know...the technical stuff photographers have to pay attention to. Which for me is key!
I do enjoy the sessions in which it's just the dancer and myself creating, but there is something more rewarding when there are 3 or more gathered together to create. Last night was that reminder and hopefully there will be many more opportunities to do this.
