For what is now the fourth straight year (I do believe it's the fourth straight year), I was able to partake in the experience known as the Dance Africa Festival. For me, the unofficial summer begins with this event. It's always great to see DJs spin classic tunes, folks dancing to said music or to beat of the African drums, people supporting Black businesses, see photographers of color and look at the sea of melanin!
Normally I go on Saturday and Sunday to the festival, but this year I only attended on Sunday as I was documenting an awesome wedding on Saturday. (Thank you Ms. Kaola for the opportunity to photograph the union of your daughter and your new son!) I think this time I didn't photograph as much because I did spend some of the event either eating or dancing. Eating is a usual for me, but dancing... Yeah, I'm breaking out of my shell a little bit. Lol. But do enjoy some of the sights that my camera was able to pick up!
So yeah, there was also an attempt to record video of the day's events with a GoPro... Wouldn't you know it, those things need to be charged before leaving the house. Lol. Definitely for CurlFest I'll have both camera and GoPro handy. Also, if anyone knows of any events similar to the Dance Africa festival, CurlFest, Essence Block Party, etc., do let a brother know!
